Country stars Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd are both set to release new music this Friday, Oct. 25, marking a notable moment for the former couple following their recent divorce.
Morris, 34, announced her upcoming single, “People Still Show Up,” via Instagram on Tuesday, sharing what appears to be the song’s cover art. Just a day earlier, Hurd, 37, revealed his new track, “This Party Sucks,” with a playful Instagram post showing him holding a cardboard sign that read the song’s title. The post included a second slide stating, “out Friday.”
In a follow-up post, Hurd shared more exciting news: the music video for his single will also drop on the same day. “If you watch the whole thing you get 3 years of good luck and I’ll buy you a beer next time you see me out,” he joked in the caption.
The two artists, who were married for five years and share a 4-year-old son, Hayes, finalized their divorce in January, just three months after Morris filed for “irreconcilable differences.”
In an August interview with PEOPLE, Morris opened up about how their split has influenced her music, acknowledging that while her songs may reflect the emotions of the divorce, her primary focus remains on their son. “We both have so much love for each other and our son,” she said. “Anything musically that’s coming out is our points of view, and we need to process in our own ways.”
Although Morris doesn’t regret writing songs about her relationship with Hurd, she admits performing them can sometimes be painful. “In some ways, I don’t want to say I go into autopilot for songs like that to not feel the pain, but it is what it is,” she explained.
Morris explored the emotional fallout of her divorce on her EP Intermission, which was released on Aug. 2. She described the project as an “amazing journey of discovery” that also dealt with the heartbreak of her marriage ending. “This is my turn. I am just moving on in the ways I know I can,” she said.
During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in September, Morris discussed the inspiration behind her song “This Is How a Woman Leaves.” While initially concerned listeners might misinterpret its meaning, she clarified that Hurd was not the subject of the song. “I’ve written songs about people that scorned me, but Ryan isn’t one of them,” she noted.
With both artists releasing new music on the same day, fans are eager to hear how each of them channels their personal experiences into their latest tracks.
