Ty Pennington is embracing his milestone birthday with enthusiasm, rebranding turning 60 as “sexty.” The HGTV star, known for his role on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, marked the occasion on Instagram with a striking shirtless photo captured by his wife, Kellee Merrell.
In a playful post shared on October 19, Pennington declared, “thirst trapping all the way into 60 because why not.” He humorously acknowledged a follower’s comment about the limited time left in his sixth decade, encouraging a new term for 60: “#sexty.”
Pennington expressed gratitude for reaching this milestone, stating, “Feeling incredibly grateful and excited for what this next year (and decade) will bring.” His caption included a series of hashtags, such as “#SeniorDiscount,” “#ThisIsSixty,” “#AgingIsAGift,” and “#TyTurnsSixty.”
The photo features Pennington lounging on a bed, shirtless, with his arm casually draped over his head and adorned with necklaces. Friends and fans rallied around his post, including Love It or List It star Hilary Farr, who remarked, “At a certain point – we all look best lying on our back 😝 but sexy is timeless. 🥳”
Pennington, who married Merrell in November 2021, has been celebrating life and recovery after a health scare earlier this year. In March, he shared that he was doing “great” following surgery for a significant abscess. “You know what’s great is if you almost die, you get so much attention,” he quipped during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
In July 2023, Pennington revealed he was hospitalized in the ICU after struggling to breathe due to an abscess that was obstructing his airway. Fortunately, he was released the following day. This experience gave him a fresh perspective on life, as he noted the importance of making lasting memories in his new decade.
Recently, Pennington also shared a poignant message on Instagram reflecting on the fragility of life in light of the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. He urged his followers to hold their loved ones close and to take precautions as storms approached. “Sending love to everyone 🙏🏼💔❤️,” he concluded.
