Tim Godbee has opened up about his tumultuous breakup with fiancée Alex Byrd, alleging he was “being manipulated” in a “toxic situation” during their time together on Love Is Blind. The couple’s relationship took a turn in the latest season 7 episodes after a disagreement regarding a family visit escalated into a significant conflict.
The 33-year-old reality star confirmed his decision to end the engagement, stating he could not marry someone like Byrd. This decision came after a heated argument where he felt disrespected following Byrd’s nap after meeting his family.
Taking to social media on October 16, Tim expressed his frustration over the relationship dynamics. “When love, authenticity, and respect are consistently met with lack of effort and constant antagonism, it must be confronted with clear and firm boundaries,” he wrote in an Instagram post. He emphasized that many aspects of their story remained untold, some of which he kept private to protect what he once cherished.
“I am far from a perfect person… I must display respect for myself and my family,” Tim added, reflecting on the challenges of their relationship. He noted that he had never engaged in arguments as consistently as he did with Byrd, claiming he made efforts to keep their conflicts off-camera.
“I made the decision to remove myself from what felt like a toxic situation where I was being manipulated,” he continued. Tim argued that if the roles were reversed in their relationship, the narrative surrounding their breakup would be different.
His post was not meant to cast himself as a victim but to highlight the “lack of accountability” from Byrd. He concluded with a message to those urging him to stay in the relationship, stating, “I offer you no apology.” Tim expressed sadness that he could no longer be friendly with someone he once loved, feeling they lived in “two different realities.”
Additionally, he rejected accusations of being portrayed as “angry or controlling,” asserting that such views reflect societal stereotypes he contends with. Tim expressed his desire to move on from the relationship while defending himself and his loved ones.
In the post’s caption, he thanked fans for their support, stating he regretted that his story would be attached to his name but remained grateful for the experience. He reaffirmed his commitment to self-reflection and personal growth.
Byrd has yet to release a formal statement but referenced their breakup on her Instagram Story, expressing anticipation for the upcoming reunion, where she hopes “the truth will come out.” In an interview with Today, Byrd revealed she felt blindsided by the split, especially after Tim sought her father’s blessing for marriage just days earlier.
“I literally thought we were going to go all the way… I didn’t think our issues would ever be too big,” she stated, adding that her father was “devastated” by the news and questioned the sincerity of Tim’s earlier letter seeking his approval.
