Cameron Brink, the 22-year-old star of the Los Angeles Sparks, is officially engaged after a surprise proposal from her fiancé, Ben Felter, during a recent trip to Paris for Fashion Week. The proposal, which took place on September 30, left Brink in awe, as she had no idea what Felter had planned.
“I found out I was going to Paris about a month in advance for the Balenciaga show, where they were going to dress me,” Brink recounted in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. Despite her busy schedule—rehabbing from ACL surgery and juggling schoolwork—Brink decided to embrace the opportunity. “I thought, ‘I’m working so hard. Why not go and enjoy it?'” she said.
After the runway show, where Brink dazzled in a head-to-toe leopard ensemble, she expected to head to the Balenciaga after party. Instead, she was met with a stunning surprise at the Shangri-La hotel. “I think I’m getting ready for the after party, but in actuality, the after party is my fiancé waiting for me at the top,” Brink shared. “It was the most beautiful view. He completely surprised me! I had absolutely no clue how they hid it from me.”
Felter, who is in his fifth year of graduate studies in computer science at Stanford, cleverly concealed his plans, telling Brink he had work to finish on the West Coast. Reflecting on the unforgettable experience, Brink said, “It was just amazing.”
Brink and Felter, who first met at Stanford where he was a rower and she was a basketball star, began dating on March 10, 2021. Though they prefer to keep their relationship private, they celebrated their third anniversary with heartfelt posts on Instagram earlier this year.
In a previous conversation with PEOPLE, Brink mentioned their shared love for outdoor activities, including beach days and hiking in Los Angeles. Felter even introduced her to surfing, deepening their bond. Additionally, Brink has developed a newfound passion for art, inspired by Felter. “I love pottery and watercolor, even though I’m terrible,” she said. “It’s really lovely to just sit down and work your brain in a different way for a little bit.”
