Kesha Adds Electro-Rock Flair to Lindsey Buckingham’s ‘holiday Road’

Kesha is embracing the holiday spirit with a bold twist on Lindsey Buckingham’s 1983 hit, Holiday Road, released as part of Spotify’s Singles Holiday Collection on October 15. The Grammy-nominated pop star, 37, gives the classic track a fresh electro-rock makeover, complete with vocoder effects and production by Zhone, who also worked on her latest hit, Joyride.

Originally written for the film National Lampoon’s Vacation, Buckingham’s upbeat rock tune has been reimagined by Kesha with new lyrics that include, “Grab your money, grab your clothes / Grab your baby, hit the road / We all need a holiday.” This festive collection also features covers from artists like Mark Ambor with Run Rudolph Run, Max Richter’s rendition of River, Driving Home for Christmas by Dasha, and Emmanuel by Miel San Marcos.

In addition to her holiday release, Kesha recently teamed up with Charli XCX for a remix of Spring Breakers, from Charli’s new album Brat. The track sees Kesha returning to her signature edgy lyrics and auto-tuned vocals, delivering lines like, “Me and Charli, we the party girl gods” and referencing past hits in her characteristic tongue-in-cheek style.

Kesha’s latest single, Joyride, dropped in July, marking her first release since concluding a lengthy legal battle with producer Dr. Luke and her departure from RCA Records. Speaking with ELLE, Kesha revealed that her next album will be all about reclaiming happiness. “My soul needs this album,” she shared. “I need to reclaim my joy. Because I fought so long and hard for it.”
