Kandy Muse Breaks Barriers as First Drag Queen on House of Villains

Kandy Muse, a prominent figure from RuPaul’s Drag Race, is making waves as the first drag queen to compete on the second season of House of Villains, currently airing on E!. Known for her vibrant personality and fierce determination, Muse joins an eclectic cast that includes reality stars from Survivor, Big Brother, and The Real Housewives.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 29-year-old star expressed her excitement about this historic role. “To be the first Drag Race queen on House of Villains and the first drag queen in general on the show is incredible,” she said. Her participation marks a significant step forward for queer representation in mainstream reality television.

Muse’s casting comes amid a growing trend of Drag Race alumni making appearances on various reality shows, including Peppermint and Bob the Drag Queen on The Traitors, Alyssa Edwards on America’s Got Talent, and Laganja Estranja on So You Think You Can Dance. “It makes me so happy,” she said, referring to the visibility these queens bring to the genre. “This show has such a big platform, especially to the mainstream, straight media.”

Highlighting her accomplishments on Drag Race, Muse noted the show’s impressive 29 Emmy wins, contributing to its status as a cultural phenomenon. However, she emphasized that House of Villains represents “a completely different ballpark” and provides a new platform for queer voices. “Queer stories need to be heard,” she asserted.

As filming for the season began, Muse initially felt apprehensive about being the first drag queen on the show. However, she quickly found her footing within a supportive cast. “I was very lucky to be in this cast where everyone was so accepting and just having such a great time,” she shared. “I don’t think anyone’s been around a drag queen the way they were in this house, and everyone was just so intrigued and loving it.”

Her fellow cast members echoed this sentiment. Camilla Poindexter praised Muse’s vibrant presence, saying, “You’re a very interesting person to be around. I love it. I love you.”

In the two-part premiere on October 9 and 10, Muse found herself on the Hit List alongside rapper Safaree and The Bachelor’s Victoria Larson. However, she managed to avoid elimination by winning a challenge that involved gathering signatures for breast cancer awareness in Los Angeles.

Kandy Muse’s groundbreaking role on House of Villains not only showcases her talent but also reinforces the importance of queer representation in entertainment, proving that diverse voices can thrive in the competitive landscape of reality television.
