Scott Speedman expressed his excitement about working alongside Yvonne Strahovski in Peacock’s latest horror series, Teacup. The series, adapted from Robert R. McCammon’s novel Stinger, also stars Chaske Spencer and revolves around a group of individuals in rural Georgia confronting a mysterious threat.
During a set visit in May, Speedman, 49, shared his admiration for Strahovski, 42, who plays his character’s wife. “I’ve been a fan of hers,” he remarked, referencing her acclaimed role in The Handmaid’s Tale. Although the two actors have limited screen time together in the first six episodes, Speedman highlighted the emotional intensity of their scenes. “There are emotional explosive scenes, really,” he noted. “She’s always ready to go, which was exciting for me. I knew to bring my A-game.”
Speedman, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, emphasized the instant rapport he felt with Strahovski despite having never met her prior to filming. “We had a really interesting relationship on screen right away. I just trusted her, and she’s really good, which helps a lot,” he said. “We had a fun time doing darker scenes, which is odd but enjoyable.”
Chaske Spencer, who co-leads the series, echoed Speedman’s sentiments, noting the dynamic between the two male leads. “It was fun to play off the baggage our characters have,” Spencer explained. He praised Speedman’s physicality during their scenes, particularly a fight sequence set on a silo. “Scott’s a physical actor, so it’s fun to run around, throw each other around,” he added.
Created by Ian McCulloch, Teacup is characterized by its tense storytelling and rapid production pace. Strahovski remarked, “We move really fast here. We shoot fast and furious,” emphasizing the need for quick character development in the genre. “It makes the show relatable as it revolves around families dealing with their own issues,” she said, particularly highlighting the relationship between her character, Maggie, and Speedman’s character.
The first two episodes of Teacup are now available for streaming on Peacock, with new episodes released weekly on Thursdays.
