In a thrilling announcement, Netflix confirmed on October 10 that its hit romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This will return for a second season. The renewal has excited fans eager to see more of the charming dynamic between Adam Brody’s character, Noah, and Kristen Bell’s Joanne.
As the show gears up for its second installment, Girls veterans Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will step in as executive producers and showrunners. They join the team alongside Nora Silver, who will also serve as an executive producer.
Creator Erin Foster, who based the series on her own love story with husband Simon Tikhman, expressed her gratitude for the project. “This show will forever be a career highlight for me,” she stated. “The incredible cast, crew, producers, and executives all made this into the show it is today. Experiencing viewers’ reactions has been more than I could have dreamed.”
Foster also shared her excitement about collaborating with Konner and Kaplan, emphasizing the importance of portraying healthy relationships in a romantic comedy. “I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story,” she remarked.
Both Kaplan and Konner are already immersed in the creative process for season 2, with Kaplan noting, “I’m already having the best time working on it,” and Konner calling the opportunity a “dream.” She praised Foster as a creator with a unique voice and collaborative spirit, expressing her excitement to work alongside familiar faces from Girls.
Returning cast members include Bell, Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitchcock, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Emily Arlook, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Berman.
Foster hinted at the potential for a second season earlier this month, stating, “We’re getting a really positive response, and conversations have definitely started to happen about a potential season two.” The demand from fans is evident, especially after season 1 concluded with an emotional cliffhanger. Joanne’s heartfelt decision to let Noah go left many unanswered questions, making the prospect of a second season all the more enticing.
Ahead of the show’s premiere on September 26, Bell described Nobody Wants This as a “modern romcom,” highlighting its mature themes and relatable characters. “I love that the characters are what, 38? And that it addresses everything from the perils of dating apps to bridging differences in the name of love,” she said. “It’s a grown-up rom-com.”
With strong anticipation for the upcoming season, Nobody Wants This is set to continue captivating audiences with its relatable narrative and compelling characters.
