Monica Davis, a contestant on Love Is Blind, has opened up about discovering explicit texts between her fiancé, Stephen Richardson, and another woman, which led to a shocking breakup. During her appearance on The Viall Files podcast on October 10, the 37-year-old sales executive shared the unexpected moment that shattered her relationship.
After leaving the pods in Season 7 of the reality series, Monica and Stephen began living together in an apartment provided by the show. The couple was waiting for a text from their friends, Taylor Krause and Garrett Josemans, who were baking cookies for the group. While Stephen, 34, was in the bathroom, Monica noticed a text notification on his phone and decided to check it. To her dismay, she found a conversation with another woman filled with explicit messages.
“I didn’t remember the exact words, but the messages were kinky and explicit,” Monica recalled. “I was so taken aback—I couldn’t believe this was the person I was sharing my life with.” She clarified that she wasn’t “kink-shaming” Stephen, despite the accusations she had received.
The revelation was particularly painful for Monica, as Stephen had previously admitted during their time in the pods that he had been unfaithful in past relationships. Despite his apologies and attempt at self-reflection, Monica ended the relationship, unable to overlook his betrayal.
Stephen later reflected on the incident, acknowledging his mistakes. “I shouldn’t have come on the show,” he told PEOPLE, adding that self-reflection and ongoing therapy are essential for personal growth.
In the aftermath, Monica expressed her disillusionment. “You were going to meet my dad this weekend while you were planning on cheating?” she said, rejecting his apology. Despite the painful split, Monica’s candid recount highlights the importance of honesty and healing in relationships.
