Mauricio Umansky Seeks Conservatorship Over Father

by Coco

Mauricio Umansky, star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has filed for conservatorship over his 81-year-old father, Eduardo Umansky, citing concerns about his father’s well-being and potential exploitation by his girlfriend.

In a petition for the appointment of a probate conservator, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Mauricio and his sister, Sharon Umansky Benton, assert that Eduardo is unable to care for himself adequately and is susceptible to undue influence and fraud. They are seeking to assume control over both his personal and financial affairs.

The petition alleges that Eduardo’s girlfriend has become increasingly controlling, restricting his social interactions and attempting to isolate him. According to the filing, “Over the course of the past few months, [Eduardo’s] girlfriend has become more controlling, limiting and regulating who [he] can visit with.” It also claims she has pressured him to marry her, despite their two-decade relationship without prior commitment.

The document details an incident in which Mauricio and Sharon took their father to lunch without notifying his girlfriend, an action that reportedly triggered her anger, resulting in “verbal and emotional abuse” towards Eduardo. The petition states, “Petitioner is informed and believes that [Eduardo] is unable to resist undue influence and fraud and has been taken advantage of by his girlfriend.”

In addition to emotional abuse, the petition accuses the girlfriend of financial exploitation, claiming she has taken over $260,000 from Eduardo in the past 18 months through manipulative means. Mauricio alleges that Eduardo has written numerous checks to her “for no reason other than she wanted it,” and another $100,000 in expenses remain unexplained.

The financial assessment included in the petition indicates that Eduardo has an annual gross income of $200,000, $20,000 in personal property, and no value attributed to real estate. The petition asserts that Eduardo does not have a developmental disability but is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing or shelter” and is “substantially unable to manage his financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence.”

Included with the petition is a signature from Eduardo, consenting to the conservatorship, dated June 11, 2024. A court date has been set for late October, where a judge will assess the validity of the request. Eduardo is expected to appear in court for the hearing.
