Céline Dion Emotional After Kelly Clarkson’s Heartfelt Cover of “My Heart Will Go On”

Céline Dion expressed profound gratitude and emotion after Kelly Clarkson delivered a stunning rendition of her iconic song, “My Heart Will Go On.” In a heartfelt video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on October 8, Dion reflected on Clarkson’s tribute, which aired on Clarkson’s talk show the previous week.

“I came back from the Olympics and had the chance to watch and listen to your reaction to my performance at the Eiffel Tower. It was incredibly sweet to hear your voice,” Dion, 56, remarked, recalling her emotional response to Clarkson’s coverage of her Olympic performance. “Your voice was breaking, and it touched me tremendously.”

Dion became visibly emotional as she continued, “You were crying, and then you made me start crying. What’s up with all this friggin crying?! And now I just saw you sing ‘My Heart Will Go On,’ and I’m crying again.” She praised Clarkson, saying, “You were absolutely incredible. Fantastic. I loved it so much. I hope we can see each other in person soon. Very soon. And I hope I’m not going to start crying. I love you so much. Thanks. Bye.”

Clarkson, 42, had performed the emotional ballad on September 27, teasing that there was a special reason behind her choice. “She really is an incredible talent. Her stunning performance at the Olympics was one of the highlights for me this summer,” Clarkson commented after her rendition. “Usually, I would never cover that song because some songs you just don’t want to go near as a vocalist, but there’s a reason I actually did that today. You’ll find out later.”

In July, Clarkson served as a member of the broadcast team during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics, where Dion captivated audiences with her performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne À L’Amour” against the backdrop of the illuminated Olympic Rings.

Overcome with emotion during the broadcast, Clarkson remarked, “That was really beautiful. People don’t know her story. What she’s been going through physically… it’s just incredible what she’s overcome to have that moment.”

Dion’s performance at the Olympics was significant, marking her first since publicly revealing her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in December 2022, a condition that has impacted her singing abilities. In a PEOPLE cover story in June, she shared her struggles: “My vocal cords used to lead my way, and now I can’t even just talk with them. I barely could walk, and I was missing very much living.”

Recently, on October 6, Dion appeared in a promotional video for an NFL Sunday Night football game featuring the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers, playfully reenacting the tradition of winning teams getting drenched in Gatorade.
