The Flaming Lips are calling on fans for assistance in locating Charlotte “Bowie” Drozd, the 16-year-old daughter of the band’s multi-instrumentalist, Steven Drozd. The Seattle Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that Charlotte was last seen on Saturday, October 5, near the Space Needle.
Charlotte, who is nicknamed Bowie, went missing around 11:30 a.m. after boarding the monorail near the iconic Seattle landmark. The missing person report describes her as approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing khaki shorts and pink shoes.
Police have categorized Charlotte as a missing or runaway juvenile, and a detective from the Missing Persons Unit is actively investigating her case. Drozd, 55, and the band’s frontman, Wayne Coyne, took to social media on Monday, October 7, to appeal for help.
In his Instagram post, Coyne, 63, wrote, “URGENT!!! Please help if you can!!! Steven’s daughter (she is 16 years old) is missing!!! She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday… I’ll post more info as soon as I can ❤️🙏.” Coyne also added the hashtags “#BringBowieHome” and “#MissingPersonSeattle,” among others.
Drozd expressed his gratitude, replying, “Thank you, Wayne, for posting. We don’t know what to do ❤️.”
The Flaming Lips’ official Facebook page also shared a missing persons poster, amplifying the call for help. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that in 2023, there were 28,886 cases of missing children, with 1,331 cases reported in Washington state alone. Although most cases are resolved, many still remain active.
