Karen Huger of The Real Housewives of Potomac is speaking out against her co-stars’ reactions to her recent DUI arrest, describing their remarks as “painful” and questioning whether they wished her harm. The reality star’s comments came during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with host Andy Cohen, following the season nine premiere of RHOP on October 6.
In the episode titled “A Crash Course in Deflection,” viewers saw a dramatic reenactment of Huger’s DUI incident, which occurred in March. The scene portrayed Huger’s car crash, allegedly caused by a deer, and the subsequent reaction from her castmates.
Huger reflected on the painful experience, telling Cohen, “It just was so painful to watch it because I lived through it.” She admitted that the recreation closely mirrored the actual event, save for the fictitious deer.
When Cohen pressed her on whether the comments made by her fellow Housewives had upset her, Huger confirmed they had. She expressed disappointment particularly towards Ashley Darby, who questioned Huger’s responsibility and commented on her drinking habits. “Ashley needs to be concerned about her relationship with alcohol the way she sucks down the Coronas,” Huger said.
During the episode, Darby suggested Huger was compromising her role as a mother and businesswoman. She also noted that this was not Huger’s first DUI, implying a pattern of behavior. “It’s the same song and dance I’ve seen from Karen,” Darby commented.
Huger, visibly hurt, told Cohen, “It’s very painful to listen to that… Are you wishing me harm?” She emphasized that she is currently fighting the charges and hopes for a fair outcome, adding, “When I can speak about it, I plan to be open and transparent as I always have been.”
Huger is facing multiple charges related to the incident, including DUI, DWI, reckless driving, and failing to control vehicle speed. Court documents revealed that she was driving her Maserati when she lost control and crashed into a tree. Huger later issued a statement explaining that she had been emotionally distressed after a dinner conversation with a friend.
The Bravo star credited her late mother, whom she described as her “Guardian Angel,” and her seatbelt for saving her life. Huger also took the opportunity to remind viewers to be mindful of their emotional state when driving.
While Huger awaits the resolution of her case, she cautioned her co-stars to be careful with their words, especially when commenting on matters they did not directly witness. “That goes against you too,” she warned.
Ashley Darby has not publicly addressed Huger’s comments, though she posted an Instagram Story on October 7, showing herself opening a beer while being chauffeured, with the caption, “Notice I’m being driven, not driving.”
As Huger navigates the legal repercussions, her comments suggest a rift among the RHOP cast, adding another layer of drama to the new season.
