Forest Whitaker made a heartfelt appearance at the 2024 Faces of Hope Gala on Friday, September 27, accompanied by his daughters Sonnet, 27, and True, 26. The outing comes several months after the passing of their mother, Keisha Nash, who died in December 2023 at the age of 51.
The 63-year-old star of Godfather of Harlem showcased a stylish moment with True, as both wore elegant black outfits. Whitaker donned a classic tuxedo and bow tie, while True complemented him in a silk gown adorned with a lace bodice, pairing it with a chic black purse and heels, accentuated by a dark red lip.
Sonnet opted for a more whimsical look, wearing a pink dress embellished with silver sequins and feather sleeves. She completed her ensemble with a silver purse and soft pink eyeshadow, looking radiant as she posed alongside her father and sister.
The family shared smiles for the camera, with Whitaker proudly placing an arm around each daughter. This public appearance followed the somber occasion of Nash’s funeral in January, where the family gathered to honor her memory alongside Nash’s older daughter, Autumn, from a previous relationship. The service was attended by notable figures, including John Travolta and Stevie Wonder.
True announced her mother’s death via an emotional Instagram post, sharing a touching tribute: “Goodbye mommy. I love you 4ever and beyond,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for the lessons Nash imparted during her life.
Whitaker and Nash met while filming the 1994 movie Blown Away, where she played his character’s girlfriend. The couple married in 1996 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and remained together for 22 years before divorcing in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences.
