Josh Groban Reveals Secret to Strong Relationship with Girlfriend Natalie McQueen: ‘Laughter and Communication’

Josh Groban is giving fans a glimpse into his relationship with stage actress Natalie McQueen, highlighting the importance of humor and open communication in their bond.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the New York Philharmonic Opening Gala on Tuesday, Sept. 24, where Groban was the headline performer, the 43-year-old singer shared how he and McQueen, 34, maintain a strong and loving relationship. The event honored philanthropists Klara and Larry A. Silverstein.

“Communication is key for us,” Groban said. “We’re both introverts and people pleasers, so it can sometimes take a little extra effort to get to the heart of how we’re feeling. We make a point to check in with each other—’How are we really doing? How was your day?’ It’s about being thoughtful and present.”

One of the couple’s most cherished habits is making each other laugh. “We make each other laugh constantly,” Groban shared. “And at the end of the day, we love and respect each other, and just try to make each day better than the last.”

Balancing the demands of Groban’s career with their relationship can be challenging, especially when he’s on tour. “With travel, I try not to be gone as long. It’s important to stay connected,” he said.

The couple went public with their relationship in February 2023, when Groban shared a Valentine’s Day post on Instagram. Since then, he has been open about their bond, even sharing a heartfelt birthday tribute to McQueen in June.

“Today is very special because it’s @nataliemcqueen’s birthday, and I’m so lucky the most wonderfully spectacular woman came into the world and into my life!” Groban captioned a photo carousel of the two.

While McQueen tends to stay out of the spotlight, Groban’s romantic history includes high-profile relationships with Katy Perry, Kat Dennings, and January Jones.

Outside of his relationship, Groban is deeply committed to his philanthropic efforts. At the gala, he expressed his excitement about performing with the New York Philharmonic for the first time, calling it a “great honor” and reflecting on how much the institution has inspired him.

The “You Raise Me Up” singer is also preparing for a special benefit concert for his Find Your Light Foundation, which supports arts education in underserved communities. The event, scheduled for October 29 at Jazz at Lincoln Center, will feature performances by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Sara Bareilles, and will honor classical performer Renée Fleming and U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy.

“I am here because of an arts education,” Groban said. “I come from a family that supported me in schools and programs that gave me access to the arts. Not every child gets that opportunity, and that’s why I’m passionate about supporting arts education through my foundation.”

Groban’s devotion to both his relationship and his charitable work showcases his commitment to fostering connections—whether with loved ones or through the power of the arts.
