Lady Gaga Provokes with Mona Lisa Stunt in New ‘Joker’ Teaser

Lady Gaga is set to showcase her rock ‘n’ roll persona in a new song inspired by her upcoming film, Joker: Folie À Deux. On September 25, the Oscar-winning artist shared a captivating teaser clip for her track “The Joker,” which will be featured on her companion album, Harlequin.

The visually striking video was filmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris, where Gaga sings, “There’s always a joker in the pack, there’s always a lonely clown,” while exploring the iconic art destination. Sporting a vibrant short red wig and an eclectic outfit consisting of a patterned blue dress, polka dot tights, and Converse sneakers, she moves through the museum’s illustrious exhibits.

As she encounters renowned artworks, including the Winged Victory of Samothrace, Gaga croons poignant lyrics: “The poor laughing fool falls on his back and everyone laughs when he’s down / There’s always a funny man in the game, but he’s only funny by mistake / And everyone laughs at him just the same. They don’t see his lonely heartbreak.”

The teaser reaches a climactic moment as Gaga stands before the legendary Mona Lisa. With a playful gesture, she waves at the masterpiece before drawing the Joker’s signature red smile on the protective glass covering the painting. This act mirrors a scene from the film’s first teaser, where her character, Harley Quinn, similarly adorns a glass partition with red lipstick while visiting Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in prison.

Gaga joyfully dances away from the painting, repeating the phrase “The Joker is me” as she embodies her character. The clip concludes with the phrase “Time for a Folie À Deux” flashing across the screen, announcing the film’s theatrical release and an upcoming exhibition at the Louvre titled Figures of the Fool. The teaser ends with a chilling soundbite of Phoenix laughing in character as the Joker.

Gaga captioned the Instagram post, “There’s always a Joker. #FiguresDuFou #Louvre #JokerMovie,” highlighting the creative synergy between art and cinema.

Harlequin is set to be released on September 27, while Joker: Folie À Deux is slated to hit theaters on October 4. The film, which stars both Gaga and Phoenix—who reprises his role as the troubled Arthur Fleck—explores the dynamic between Harley Quinn and the Joker as they embark on a chaotic partnership.

In previous interviews, Gaga expressed excitement about her role, stating, “My version of Harley is mine, and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters.” She emphasized the film’s unique blend of music, dance, and stellar performances, noting, “I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun.”
