Two years after the tragic killing of rapper PnB Rock at a Los Angeles restaurant, the man who instructed his teenage son to carry out the robbery and murder has been sentenced to life in prison.
Freddie Lee Trone, 42, was sentenced to 31 years to life on September 23 by L.A. Superior Court Judge Connie Quinones. Trone had been convicted of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of robbery after a jury trial in August, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
The murder took place on September 12, 2022, at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in South Los Angeles, where PnB Rock, born Rakim Hasheem Allen, was having lunch with his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang. Trone’s then-17-year-old son, who remains unnamed due to his age, was allegedly directed by his father to rob and shoot the rapper. The son, now 19, is being held in a juvenile detention facility and is undergoing mental competency proceedings.
Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón commented on the sentencing, stating, “Today, justice has been served with the sentencing of two men for the tragic and senseless murder of Rakim Hasheem Allen, also known as PnB Rock. His life was cut short by an act of violence no family should ever have to endure.”
Trone’s involvement in the crime also led to the conviction of two other individuals. Tremont Jones was sentenced to 12 years in prison for two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, while Trone’s wife, Shauntel Trone, pleaded no contest to accessory after the fact and is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
Following the tragic incident, PnB Rock’s girlfriend, Sibounheuang, took to Instagram to recount the harrowing moment. “My man saved my life, throwing me under that table,” she wrote. “I’m not supposed to be here, but because of him, I am.” She also expressed her heartbreak, describing the traumatic aftermath of witnessing the crime and not being allowed to accompany PnB Rock to the hospital.
PnB Rock, 30, was a prominent figure in the hip-hop scene, known for hits like “Selfish” and his collaborations with artists like YFN Lucci and Chance the Rapper. His untimely death shook the music community, prompting widespread condolences from fans and fellow musicians alike.
The sentencing marks a significant step toward justice for the rapper’s family and loved ones, with District Attorney Gascón emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community in bringing those responsible to justice.
