The cast of the beloved series One Tree Hill recently gathered to celebrate the show’s 21st anniversary, sharing their thoughts on where their characters might be today and discussing potential plans for a reboot.
During a Q&A event hosted by Friends with Benefit Charity Events in Wilmington, N.C., the original cast members, including Lee Norris, Paul Johansson, James Lafferty, and Bryan Greenberg, offered their insights into their characters’ lives two decades after the series first premiered in 2003.
Paul Johansson, known for his role as Dan Scott, humorously declared he’s “done with Dan,” expressing gratitude for portraying such a complex character. “I moved on. But I had a good time playing him,” Johansson remarked, eliciting laughter from the audience. He further quipped about his character’s fate, saying, “Where would he be today? Well, I’d be running for president — if you get my meaning.”
James Lafferty, who portrayed Nathan Scott, reflected on his character’s journey, hoping that Nathan remained with his wife, Haley, and succeeded in his career. “I think it would be great if he stayed with Haley and had a family,” Lafferty said, acknowledging the growth of his character since the series ended.
Bryan Greenberg, who played Jake Jagielski, joked about his character’s ongoing struggles, suggesting that Jake might still be evading legal issues. “Jake, I think, is still on the lam,” he joked, envisioning Jake hiding in Panama while waiting for his daughter Jenny to come visit.
The conversation around a possible reboot intensified, especially following Hilarie Burton Morgan’s recent comments about her involvement in developing a new series. Morgan revealed that she is collaborating with a female-led team, creating a more supportive and healthier environment than during the original series, particularly in light of past allegations against creator Mark Schwahn.
“What I can say is that this go-around, being able to work with a team of women and look at these stories through a female lens is something that is so vital to me,” Morgan stated.
Sophia Bush, another original cast member, has also taken an active role in the reboot’s development. While she acknowledged that details are still under wraps, she expressed excitement about the collaborative effort. “What I can say is that after close to half a decade of these conversations, we’ve been able to divide and conquer in the coolest way,” Bush said.
As fans await further announcements, the One Tree Hill cast’s reflections on their characters and hopes for the future continue to generate buzz and anticipation for a potential return to Tree Hill.
