Michael Strahan has officially become a grandfather! The former NFL star and current Good Morning America host shared the joyous news during the Fox NFL Sunday show on September 22. His eldest daughter, Tanita, has welcomed a baby boy named Onyx, according to a PEOPLE staffer.
While further details about the newborn have yet to be disclosed, Tanita, 32, has remained private about her pregnancy, with her last Instagram post dating back to October 2023.
Tanita is the eldest of Strahan’s four children, born in Germany before moving to Houston, Texas, following her parents’ divorce. She later returned to Germany with her mother, Wanda Hutchins. In a 2016 exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Tanita reflected on how her upbringing in Germany shaped her laid-back personality, stating, “I’ve never been the type of person to be starstruck.”
After relocating to the United States in high school, Tanita pursued studies in design and visual communication at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
Strahan has often praised his daughter’s strong character, noting in a 2013 interview that she possesses a “silent strong personality.” He remarked, “She’s very smart and knows what she wants, which I love about her.”
In addition to Tanita, Strahan shares a son, Michael Jr., 29, with Hutchins, and twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, 19, with his second wife, Jean Muggli.
The Good Morning America anchor frequently expresses pride in his family, emphasizing their importance in his life. “To me, it’s all about family, now more than anything,” he told PEOPLE in 2016.
On Tanita’s 31st birthday, Michael celebrated her on Instagram with heartfelt messages and cherished memories, expressing pride in the person and artist she has become.
