In a recent interview, Friends star Jane Sibbett shared a memorable moment involving her late co-star Matthew Perry, highlighting his amusing reaction during a breastfeeding scene on the iconic sitcom.
Reflecting on her role as Carol Willick, Sibbett recounted the season 2 episode titled “The One with the Breast Milk,” where she improvised a surprising twist. “I actually tried to nurse the babies—with their mother’s permission—and that’s why you get such a hilarious reaction from Matt Perry,” she told The Sun. “He was like, ‘Whoa, Sibbett’s breast is out.’ He thought I was going to pantomime breastfeeding but didn’t know I’d do it for real.”
Sibbett noted that the baby involved in the scene was just as perplexed, contributing to Perry’s visibly flustered response. “You can almost see him blush if you look at that take closely enough. It’s so hilarious. I mean, I’m sure he’d seen breasts before, but he’d never seen me whip mine out. That was funny.”
This reflection comes as the beloved sitcom celebrates its 30th anniversary, a milestone marked by mixed emotions following Perry’s tragic death from an accidental drug overdose in October 2023 at the age of 54. During a recent interview with Today, show creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane acknowledged the significance of this anniversary in light of Perry’s passing. Kauffman described it as “a huge loss,” while Crane fondly remembered Perry as someone who “made us laugh every day.”
Kauffman also urged fans to honor Perry’s legacy by supporting drug treatment centers and celebrating his comedic spirit. “Let’s fight the disease,” she said. “And remember [Perry] not as a man who died like that but as a man who was hilariously funny and brought joy to everybody.”
