Golden Bachelorette Contestant Gil Ramirez Faces Allegations of Stalking Amid Show’s Production

A Background Check Was Cleared Before His Ex-Girlfriend Filed a Temporary Restraining Order

A troubling history has emerged for Golden Bachelorette contestant Gil Ramirez, with court documents revealing allegations of stalking by a former girlfriend, just months before the show began production.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, Ramirez’s ex-girlfriend filed for a temporary restraining order on June 11, citing harassment and emotional distress. The filing, which came just days before production began, claims that Ramirez, 60, repeatedly harassed her and her loved ones despite her requests to cease contact.

In her court testimony, the woman alleged that Ramirez made 25 attempts daily via phone, text, and video to contact her and would unexpectedly show up at locations she frequented. “Despite telling him to not contact me, come to my house — he made repeated unwanted contact with me, family members, and friends,” she wrote, although she clarified she had not suffered any physical harm.

A judge granted the temporary restraining order that same day and scheduled a hearing for July 2. However, the order was unable to be served, delaying the hearing until July 24. By that date, the woman testified, but the case was dismissed without prejudice due to a lack of prosecution and failure to serve Ramirez. The temporary restraining order was ultimately dropped.

A source close to The Golden Bachelorette revealed that the restraining order filing occurred after the completion of the show’s background check and thorough vetting process. “This filing occurred in the brief period between the completion of our background investigation and the start of production,” the insider said. In light of the revelations, the source added, the show has reduced Ramirez’s screen time and limited his presence in promotional materials.

Ramirez, described as a 60-year-old educator from Mission Viejo, California, appeared in the season premiere of The Golden Bachelorette on September 18 and was awarded a rose, securing his place in the next episode. PEOPLE has reached out to Ramirez for comment but has yet to receive a response.

This revelation comes shortly after another Bachelor Nation controversy, involving Devin Strader, winner of season 21 of The Bachelorette. Strader faced accusations of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and violating restraining orders in 2017. Strader has denied these claims, calling the allegations “severely misconstrued” and stating that the restraining order was never made permanent.

As Bachelor Nation continues to navigate these controversies, questions about the thoroughness of background checks and the handling of contestants’ pasts persist.
