Demi Lovato is feeling grounded and loved, thanks to their fiancé, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes. At the premiere of their new film Child Star, the 32-year-old singer and actor opened up about their relationship and the deep connection they share.
At the screening held at NeueHouse Hollywood, Lovato and Lutes made a striking appearance, stepping out in coordinated black outfits. Lovato, dressed in a sleek black gown, and Lutes, wearing a sharp black suit with an unbuttoned shirt, radiated chemistry as they celebrated the milestone together.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Lovato—who got engaged to Lutes in December 2023—expressed how meaningful it was to have their fiancé by their side during such important moments. “I’ve waited my whole life for him, and having him be a part of this makes it that much sweeter,” they shared.
Lovato, who uses she/they pronouns, also highlighted how Lutes’ unwavering support has been vital in helping them stay centered. “It’s very grounding to have a partner who is so loving, caring, and supportive,” they said. “It’s easy to stay centered with him because I love him so much, and he treats me so amazingly.”
The couple first made their relationship public in August 2022 after working together on Lovato’s song “Substance.” Since then, their bond has only strengthened, with Lovato teasing PEOPLE about potential wedding plans but keeping the details under wraps. “I don’t know. I can’t tell you,” they playfully responded when asked if a 2025 wedding was in the works.
Lovato’s latest film Child Star, their directorial debut, features interviews with past and present child stars as they reflect on the pressures of fame at a young age. The project marks another important chapter in Lovato’s career, but they no longer measure their worth by professional success. Instead, their focus has shifted to the relationships in their life, especially their bond with Lutes.
“I no longer equate my success with self-worth,” Lovato told PEOPLE. “Now, it’s the relationships in my life that bring me joy. I’m an introvert, but I love co-regulating with the people who matter to me—first and foremost, my fiancé, but also my friends, family, and dogs.”
For Lovato, love and connection have become the true foundation of their life. “I value and cherish love more than anything. That’s what life is really about: love,” they said. “Careers and experiences are fleeting, but relationships with family and friends last. It’s all about spending time with the people you love.”
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Lovato revealed that they “instantly had a crush” on Lutes when they first met while co-writing “Substance.” Their deep affection for Lutes was evident as they gushed about their relationship. “I live and breathe for our connection,” they said. “Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see us growing old together.”
Lovato’s relationship with Lutes, coupled with the important people in their life, has brought a sense of peace and fulfillment that transcends professional achievements. As they continue to thrive both personally and professionally, their love story with Lutes remains the heartbeat of their happiness.
