Porsha Williams has secured a significant legal victory in her ongoing divorce proceedings against Simon Guobadia. The recent court ruling sides with Williams on several key issues, marking a notable triumph in the case.
The court has granted Williams’ request to dismiss Guobadia’s subpoena and the motion for a videotaped deposition of her employer, True Entertainment. Additionally, the judge denied Guobadia’s emergency motions related to discovery and ordered him to cover Williams’ attorney fees and litigation expenses.
The ruling also addressed contentious aspects of the couple’s prenuptial agreement. Guobadia had argued that Williams’ intent to return to reality television or seek future employment breached the agreement and constituted a misrepresentation, rendering it invalid. However, the court found no merit in this claim, asserting that Williams’ career as a reality TV star was well-known to Guobadia at the time the prenup was negotiated.
The court’s decision reinforces that the prenuptial agreement was thoroughly reviewed and negotiated with legal representation for both parties over an extended period. It noted that the agreement was designed to avoid costly litigation and addressed issues of fraud, misrepresentation, and duress in its provisions.
This ruling represents a crucial step towards finalizing Williams’ divorce. Once the prenup is formally upheld by the court, Williams will receive her legal expenses from Guobadia and conclude the divorce proceedings.
Williams originally filed for divorce in February after 15 months of marriage, citing the marriage as “irretrievably broken.” Disputes over the prenup’s validity, the marital home’s occupancy, and Williams’ financial situation related to her NBC Universal deal have fueled the legal battle.
Throughout the process, Williams has accused Guobadia of making “false statements and allegations,” which she claims misrepresent the reality of their situation.
