Snoop Dogg has opened up about the foundation of his enduring 27-year marriage to high school sweetheart Shante Broadus, revealing the secrets to their lasting love and partnership.
Reflecting on their journey, the 52-year-old rapper, who first met Shante at Long Beach’s Polytechnic High School in the 1980s, credits her with being the perfect balance in his life. “She understands me completely,” Snoop says of his wife, who is also 52. “She’s a great mother, a wonderful grandmother, an exceptional wife, and a true friend. She has the unique ability to either push my buttons and make me act up or keep me cool, and I cherish that.”
Their relationship hasn’t been without its challenges. After marrying in 1997, the couple faced a temporary separation in 2004 before renewing their vows four years later. “Early in our relationship, success was new to both of us, and it was a rocky road,” Snoop admits. “There were times I thought I should shield her from certain aspects of my life, but in reality, she needed to be there to protect me.”
Snoop acknowledges the growth and understanding that has come with time. “You learn over the years that you need to let your partner take control where necessary. She balances my flaws perfectly,” he explains. “I’m a loving and caring husband who provides for our family. My wife has never had to work, and that’s because I am the one doing the work, while she is my backbone.”
As for Shante’s role in their marriage, Snoop highlights her patience and understanding. “She has grown with me, understanding my career and giving me the space to thrive. She has taught me the value of patience, family, and making time without excuses.”
Snoop Dogg’s advice for a lasting marriage is straightforward: “To stay together this long, you need a strong partner with a good heart. We made a vow ’til death do us part, not just through arguments or financial issues. It’s about enduring commitment.”
He also shares his personal secret to marital happiness: “Discover what your partner loves most and focus on that. That’s real love.”
Today, Snoop Dogg emphasizes that family is paramount. “My greatest joy now is seeing my wife happy, my family healthy, and us all united in love.”
