Pop star Demi Lovato is looking ahead to a future filled with love and commitment alongside her fiancé, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes. In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, the 32-year-old singer shared heartfelt reflections on her relationship with Lutes, 33, whom she described as her “soulmate.”
Lovato, who uses she/they pronouns, revealed that her connection with the Canadian songwriter was immediate. “I instantly had a crush on him,” she said. “I live and breathe for our connection. Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.”
The couple first met in January 2022 while collaborating on Lovato’s song “Substance” from her eighth studio album Holy Fvck. Lutes, who has co-writing credits on several of Lovato’s tracks, including “Happy Ending” and “City of Angels,” has been by her side through both personal and professional moments. Their relationship went public in August 2022, and in December 2023, they became engaged after a private proposal in Los Angeles.
Discussing their plans for the future, Lovato opened up about wanting to start a family, though not just yet. “We plan to have children together, but I’m not ready to give up my alone time with [Jordan],” they shared. When the time does come, Lovato plans to keep her children’s lives private. “I don’t even want to share their faces on Instagram. I share a lot with the world, but I want some things to be mine.”
As Lovato gears up for the release of her directorial debut Child Star on Hulu, which premieres September 17, she expressed how much love has become central to her happiness. “What makes me happy and brings me peace now are the relationships in my life. I’m an introvert, but I love co-regulating with the people who are most important to me,” she said. “First and foremost, my fiancé, but also my best friends, family, and dogs. I value love so much. It means more to me than anything because that’s truly what life is about: love.”
Lutes, too, has shown his devotion. For Lovato’s birthday in August, he shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, posting a series of photos and calling Lovato “my whole world.” In his post, he praised her drive and passion, writing, “For someone that has done so much in life already, I’m always so inspired by how much you push yourself to learn new things and take on new roles. You’re truly unstoppable, and I’m so lucky I get to watch you grow up close.”
Lovato responded in the comments, expressing her excitement about their future together, saying the best part of her birthday was “knowing that this year I get to marry my soulmate.”
With both love and career milestones ahead, Lovato and Lutes are ready to take the next step in their journey together.
