Anitta made a stunning impression at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, September 11, arriving in a dramatic all-white outfit that evoked a bridal aesthetic.
The 31-year-old Brazilian singer dazzled in a corset-style mini dress adorned with sheer panels and a flowing tulle skirt that perfectly complemented her hooded cape. Completing her look were thigh-high stockings and strappy silver high-heeled sandals, adding a touch of elegance to the ensemble.
During the pre-show red carpet, Anitta playfully hinted that her bridal-inspired attire might be more than just a fashion statement. “I’m manifesting to the world and seeing if something happens,” she said with a smile. “That’s just a joke, but maybe—maybe yes, maybe no?”
Anitta is a contender for three awards at the ceremony. Her songs “Mil Veces” and “BELLAKEO,” featuring Peso Pluma, are nominated for Best Latin, with “Mil Veces” also in the running for Best Editing.
In addition to her red carpet appearance, Anitta is scheduled to perform alongside other notable artists, including Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro.
The singer’s previous VMAs performance in 2023 included a medley of hits and an unreleased track titled “Grip,” which later featured on her 2024 album Funk Generation. That year, Anitta also made history as the only Brazilian artist to win an MTV Moon Person, taking home the award for Best Latin Video with “Funk Rave.”
Reflecting on her achievements, Anitta spoke to PEOPLE about her Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. “I’m so happy,” she said. “It’s been fifty years since Brazil was represented in a main category. For me, it’s making history, and my whole country is watching. Being here tonight is already a victory.”
