Brittany Mahomes Shares Lighthearted Moment Amid Tornado Watch at Chiefs’ Season Opener

Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, captures a behind-the-scenes moment as fans are asked to shelter in place at Arrowhead Stadium due to severe weather.

Brittany Mahomes, ever the devoted fan, was on hand to support the Kansas City Chiefs during their 2024 season opener, despite the unpredictable weather that unfolded. On Thursday, September 5, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, fans, including Mahomes, were asked to shelter in place as a powerful but brief storm swept through the area.

The storm hit just before the Chiefs were set to face the Baltimore Ravens, bringing with it heavy rain and lightning. Originally scheduled for a 7:20 p.m. local time kickoff, the game was delayed by 20 minutes, with play beginning at 7:40 p.m. instead.

During the storm, Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, took to Instagram to share how she and their three-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye, handled the unexpected weather. The duo shielded themselves from the rain with Chiefs-themed towels, with Brittany lightheartedly telling the camera, “We’re surviving,” while Sterling smiled sweetly beside her.

For the game, Brittany sported a casual yet stylish look, pairing a loose white t-shirt with cargo denim jeans accented in the team’s signature colors, red and yellow, along the seams. Little Sterling looked equally adorable in a red dress, ruffled socks to match, and her hair styled in playful pigtails topped with pink bows.

It wasn’t just the Mahomes family and other Chiefs fans who took cover from the storm—pop superstar Taylor Swift was also in attendance and had to shelter in place. Swift, who has been romantically linked to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, arrived at the stadium before the storm hit, traveling via golf cart and taking a moment to greet fans. Dressed in thigh-high boots, shorts, and a bustier tank, Swift waved and said, “Hello… how are you guys?” as she made her way into the stadium.

Earlier that day, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt commented on Swift’s growing influence within the fanbase, telling the Today show that her presence and relationship with Kelce had “certainly impacted our fanbase,” noting an increase in female, particularly young, fans.

Despite the storm, the energy and excitement surrounding the Chiefs’ season opener remained unshaken, with fans and celebrities alike showing their unwavering support for the team.
