Brandon Crawford’s stint with the St. Louis Cardinals has come to an end. The veteran shortstop, who joined the Cardinals on a one-year, $2 million deal last offseason, was released by the team in a series of roster adjustments announced Tuesday.

Crawford, a mainstay with the San Francisco Giants for 13 seasons, had expressed interest in returning to the Giants during the offseason. However, the team opted to move forward with rookie Marco Luciano before eventually selecting Nick Ahmed as their starting shortstop.

At 37 years old, Crawford’s performance with the Cardinals was limited. He played in just 28 games this season, posting a batting line of .169/.263/.282, with one home run and four RBIs across 80 plate appearances.

Crawford’s illustrious career includes three MLB All-Star selections and four Gold Glove Awards. He was a pivotal player in the Giants’ World Series victories in 2012 and 2014 and also earned a Silver Slugger Award.
