Lil Yachty and Drake‘s recently leaked collaboration, “Supersoak,” has stirred up controversy, but there’s now a path to an official release—under one condition. The track, which faced clearance issues due to its sampled content, has received a potential green light from the sample’s creator, Mr. Hotspot, with a unique stipulation.
Last week, Lil Yachty disclosed that the social media influencer Mr. Hotspot had initially refused to clear the sample for “Supersoak” over religious concerns. Despite the refusal, Yachty proceeded to leak the track, prompting criticism from fans and industry insiders alike. However, Mr. Hotspot, known for his uplifting and child-friendly content, is not holding a grudge.
In a recent TikTok livestream, Mr. Hotspot offered a solution: he would clear the track if Lil Yachty and Drake re-recorded a version using a clean reference track he provided. “It’ll be good for both of their brands,” he said, emphasizing the importance of making the song accessible to younger audiences.
“I’m blessed to work with children, so we just gotta make it clean for them,” Mr. Hotspot explained. “We don’t need no children getting whooped because they said this or that, you understand?”
He further elaborated on the significance of catering to a younger audience, noting, “It’s the children who are really running these views up. So if we make sure both verses are clean, everybody coming clean, everybody gonna benefit.”
As of now, there has been no official word from Drake or Lil Yachty on whether they plan to record the clean version. Mr. Hotspot urged fans to be patient, revealing that he had only recently sent the re-recorded sample to the artists.
Lil Yachty addressed the situation during a recent appearance on the Flagrant podcast, where he explained his decision to leak the song through popular streamer Kai Cenat. “We couldn’t get the sample cleared, so I just let Kai play it,” Yachty said, adding that the track was never intended for an official release. “But it’s everywhere,” he acknowledged, reflecting on Mr. Hotspot’s shift toward a more religious lifestyle and the surprising reactions it garnered.
