Efforts to immortalize Richard Simmons’ legacy continue unabated, despite his unexpected passing.
Comedian Pauly Shore has reaffirmed his commitment to producing a biopic about the late fitness icon, a project he was deeply involved with prior to Simmons’ death.
Shore acknowledged that the main obstacle in bringing the Richard Simmons biopic to fruition is securing the necessary funding, a challenge he is actively addressing.
Shore Determined to Honor Simmons’ Legacy
Speaking at LAX on Monday, Shore emphasized that Simmons’ passing does not deter the biopic’s progress. Instead, the project’s primary delay stems from the need to secure several million dollars in financing.
Shore is currently negotiating with the Wolper Organization, part of Warner Bros., to invest $5-10 million in the film. He expressed his willingness to accept a deferred payment to ensure the biopic’s success.
Shore’s dedication to the project spans years. TMZ reported that he had been attempting to launch the biopic long before Simmons’ death. In January, Simmons publicly distanced himself from the project on Facebook, stating:
“You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read.”
However, Simmons’ stance softened shortly after, wishing Shore “good luck” with the film, though Shore suspected someone else might have been managing Simmons’ social media posts at that time.
A Community Mourns and Celebrates
Simmons’ death underscored the deep affection his family, friends, and fans hold for him. Last week, Simmons was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles.
The ceremony featured an array of vibrant flower arrangements, reflecting the love and admiration Simmons inspired throughout his life. Known for his openness and genuine connection with his followers, Simmons’ social media remained a platform for interaction until his passing, and tributes continue to pour in.
Shore faces a monumental task in capturing Simmons’ life on screen, but the continued support from Simmons’ fans and community suggests a promising path forward for the biopic.
