Phoenix, AZ – Severe weather conditions compelled the promoters to reschedule Kenny Chesney‘s sold-out concert in Phoenix from Wednesday, July 24, to Thursday, July 25. The decision came after fans endured nearly two hours of waiting at the outdoor venue.
The announcement to seek shelter came around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, following Megan Moroney’s opening performance at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre. A voice over the PA system warned attendees of the fast-approaching severe weather.
Despite the anticipation, nearly two hours later, the venue confirmed that the show could not continue.
After Moroney’s performance, the screens on either side of the stage displayed a severe weather alert at 8:30 p.m., urging ticket holders to “please seek shelter in your vehicle until further notice.” Fans sheltered under the amphitheater were allowed to remain there.
At 9:15 p.m., an update was promised within the next 30 minutes. By 10:20 p.m., an official announcement declared that the show would not proceed that night.
As fans headed to the parking lot, concert promoter Live Nation issued a statement: “Due to the continued lightning in the area and forecasts for the remainder of the evening, unfortunately, we will not be able to proceed with the show tonight. Please safely proceed to the exits. We will provide updated show information as soon as it is available.”
At 11:15 p.m., Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre’s Facebook page announced the rescheduled concert date. “Tonight’s show is rescheduled to tomorrow, July 25,” the post read. “Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:00 p.m. for an evening with Kenny Chesney. All tickets for tonight’s show will be honored.”
