During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Lisa Kudrow shared a rare glimpse into her family life, offering a touching anecdote about her son Julian, now 26 years old.
Reflecting on a poignant moment from Julian’s childhood, Lisa recalled, “My son was five and he saw me crying in the kitchen. He asked why, and my husband told him it was because ‘Friends’ had ended. Julian, in his innocent wisdom, said, ‘But you can see your friends, you can just call them.'”
Lisa chuckled as she recounted the story, highlighting Julian’s unawareness that the show was named “Friends.” Known for her privacy regarding her family, Lisa shares Julian with her husband, Michael Stern, and they raised him in Los Angeles before he ventured off to college.
Adjusting to the empty nest phase, Lisa shared, “I think I’m handling it really well, like a mature adult, happy that our son is away… and independent. It’s hard! I think I did a good job injecting him with the right amount of fear. He’s independent and good.”
Following in his mother’s footsteps, Julian pursued cinematography in college, initially focusing on film editing and later exploring acting, including a role in the short film Seth’s Big Break 2.
Despite his connection to the iconic show “Friends,” Julian does not watch it, a fact that amuses Lisa. Reflecting on Julian’s childhood, Lisa shared a funny anecdote from the podcast “Literally! With Rob Lowe,” where she recalled Julian mistaking Jennifer Aniston on screen for “mommy” and warmly interacting with her in person.
Lisa, balancing a thriving career with motherhood, reflected on her early years with Julian during the filming of “Friends,” emphasizing that the set was not conducive for a young child. She noted, “A set really isn’t a place for a toddler to be running around. It wasn’t fun for him. He wasn’t there much, as it turns out. It was fine for a quick visit but not to spend all day with mommy.”
