Katy Perry Draws Criticism for Flag Error in Euro 2024 Support Tweet

Katy Perry faced backlash online after mistakenly using the United Kingdom flag instead of the England flag in a tweet supporting England ahead of the Euro 2024 final. On Sunday, July 13, the singer tweeted, “FOOTBALL IS COMING HOME” accompanied by the United Kingdom flag emoji. Fans quickly pointed out the error, noting that England, not the entire U.K., was competing.

“Katy, it’s England flag,” one user corrected. “Pretty sure the rest of the U.K. won’t be cheering for England.”

Despite the flag mishap, England enjoyed strong celebrity support, with figures like Piers Morgan, Gemma Atkinson, and Lauryn Goodman rallying behind the team.

Entering the final against Spain as underdogs, England faced a formidable opponent in a tournament where Spain had won all six matches leading up to the showdown. However, England’s manager Gareth Southgate remained optimistic about his team’s chances. “I want my players to feel fearless,” Southgate emphasized. “Not being afraid to lose gives us a better shot at winning.”

The final took place in Berlin, Germany, where England, despite their efforts, fell short of claiming their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
