Fresh from headlining Glastonbury’s final night, Grammy-winning singer SZA has released a new Olympic promotional video. In the spot, she competes in a handstand contest against four-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles. The video opens with mutual admiration between the two stars, with Biles revealing that SZA used to be a gymnast.
SZA humbly downplays her gymnastics skills, showering Biles with praise, “I was nowhere as cool as you. I’ve never seen anything like you. No one has.” Despite her modesty, SZA surprises everyone by winning the handstand contest by a few seconds.
This friendly competition follows Biles’ recent triumph at the U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials, where she secured her place as the U.S. Olympic gymnastics champion. Biles even thrilled fans and fellow superstar Taylor Swift by performing her floor routine to Swift’s song, “…Ready For It.”
The promotional video serves to build excitement for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which will be held at various locations throughout Paris from July 26 to August 11.
In the clip, SZA also shares a personal tidbit, explaining that she pursued singing after realizing she wouldn’t become a national-level gymnast. This career switch proved successful, as evidenced by her numerous music awards.
The video captures a playful moment between SZA and Biles during their handstand contest, with SZA attempting to knock Biles over, ultimately staying on her hands longer.
