Lionel Messi Celebrates 37th Birthday with National Team
Lionel Messi, the FIFA World Cup winner, turned 37 on Monday. The Argentina captain shared a birthday photo on Instagram, celebrating with his teammates as he cut his cake. He thanked everyone for their birthday wishes.
“Thank you so much for all the greetings and congratulations!! Another year that coincides with my birthday being with the National Team… So celebrating a little bit more, and we keep getting ready for our next game. Hugs,” Messi wrote.
Messi’s journey began with FC Barcelona’s U14 squad. He quickly climbed the ranks, impressing everyone with his talent. At 17, he made his senior debut against Espanyol, becoming the youngest star for FC Barcelona.
During his 17 years with Barcelona, Messi won 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions League trophies, and 7 Copa del Rey medals. He scored an incredible 474 goals in La Liga, making him the league’s all-time top scorer.
The pinnacle of Messi’s career came when he won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. In the final, he scored twice against France. After 36 years, Argentina became world champions via a penalty shootout. Messi also led Argentina to victory in the 2021 Copa America final, defeating Brazil 1-0 at the Maracana Stadium.
Currently, Messi’s Argentina is in Group A of the Copa America, alongside Peru, Chile, and Canada. They top the points table after beating Canada 2-0 in their last game.
The Albiceleste will face Chile in their next Copa America match at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Wednesday morning.
