Sadie Sink Shines On Broadway With Support From Stranger Things Cast

Sadie Sink’s Broadway journey hit a major milestone on Monday, April 14, with the official opening of John Proctor Is the Villain at New York City’s Booth Theatre.

And she wasn’t alone – her Stranger Things castmates were right there, cheering her on!

Among the star-studded audience were Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, Gaten Matarazzo, and Finn Wolfhard, who all came out to show their support for the actress.

Photographers caught the group posing on the red carpet before the show, radiating excitement and camaraderie.

In an interview with PEOPLE before the curtain went up, Sadie, 22, shared why she was drawn to the project. “Kimberly’s writing is so brilliant,” she said.

“It truly captures teenagers in such an authentic light, dealing with tough topics but in a way that feels real and relatable. I’m incredibly proud of our team and the message the show sends.”

The play is written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Tony Award-winner Danya Taymor. Set in a Georgia high school, John Proctor Is the Villain follows a group of students studying The Crucible in English class.

But their minds are preoccupied with topics like young love, sex ed, and school scandals. As they dive deeper into the classic play, the students start to question its portrayal of John Proctor as a hero.

Sadie takes center stage in the role of Shelby Holcomb, surrounded by a talented cast including Nihar Duvvuri, Gabriel Ebert, Molly Griggs, and more.

This is Sadie’s third time on Broadway, but her first time leading a show. Fans may recognize her from her breakout role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, which skyrocketed her to fame. She also recently starred in The Whale and appeared in Taylor Swift‘s All Too Well short film.

For Sadie, leaving Stranger Things was emotional, as she shared during an appearance on The Tonight Show in January. “It was really hard to say goodbye,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “We all grew up together, and it felt like the end of an era.”

As for keepsakes, Sadie admitted she’s been collecting Stranger Things memorabilia, saying her home is becoming a “little museum” of all things Max. “I’ve got Max’s skateboard, Walkmans, and all the shoes she wore on the show,” she laughed.

With the opening night celebration in the rearview mirror, tickets for John Proctor Is the Villain are now on sale, promising an unforgettable experience for theatergoers.
