Coachella fans were excited to see Nigerian singer-rapper Rema light up the Mojave stage on Saturday night. But things didn’t go as planned — and many fans are calling it a total “disaster.”
The 22-year-old was scheduled to perform from 6:40 to 7:25 p.m., but when the time came, Rema was nowhere to be found.
Instead, a DJ and a few musicians came out to keep the crowd busy. After some awkward moments, the DJ tried to get everyone pumped up.
“Rema’s about to take the stage!” he shouted.
But 5 minutes turned into 10… then 15… then 20 minutes later, Rema still hadn’t shown up.
Finally, the DJ yelled,
“Are you ready? If you’re ready for Rema, make some mother****’ noise!”**
And then — at long last — Rema walked onstage… 30 minutes into his 45-minute set.
Fans were already disappointed by the late start. But when Rema began performing, things got even worse.
Many in the audience thought he was lip-syncing, and some said he only sang a few lines live. He kept stopping to drink water and seemed unsure of what to do next.
At one point, Rema asked the band to switch songs, then had them restart the song right after.
Suddenly, the show was just over — leaving the crowd confused, disappointed, and pretty frustrated.
People who were there — and others watching online — were quick to share their thoughts.
“The Rema set at Coachella is a disaster. 20 mins in and Rema is nowhere to be found. The DJ has been hyping the crowd while the band just stares at each other. It’s the DJ’s set at this point,” one person posted on X.
“Nahh Rema pulling up late while the DJ & guitarist look around wondering where he’s at is wild,” another fan wrote.
“Coachella being my first time seeing Rema perform… I thought he had a better artistic direction. Stage not that different, not even 3 dancers & a basic ass outfit. I swear so far he has sung 3 lines live,” one person shared.
“What just happened? Rema has been affected by something that happened backstage. This is not him. But you can tell he is trying,” another fan added.
Some fans were hoping for a special guest, especially Selena Gomez, who worked with Rema on the remix of his hit song “Calm Down.” But there were no surprise guests — and only a few songs performed before the set ended.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Rema has had trouble during a show.
In 2023, he walked off stage mid-performance in Atlanta because he was upset about the sound quality.
In 2024, he did it again at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina after complaining about more tech issues.
Born Divine Ikubor, Rema broke out in 2019 with his hit “Dumebi.” He’s become one of the biggest new names in Afrobeats — but fans are now wondering what’s really going on behind the scenes.
Will Rema bounce back after this Coachella mess? Fans are hoping so… but they definitely won’t forget this chaotic night anytime soon.
