Elton John is back and better than ever! After a decade-long hiatus from Saturday Night Live, the music legend returned to the iconic stage on April 5, accompanied by the equally dazzling Brandi Carlile. The pair delivered an unforgettable performance, sparking excitement among fans everywhere. Jack Black hosted the lively episode, and these musical powerhouses certainly brought the house down.
For their first performance, the duo showcased “Little Richard’s Bible” from their highly anticipated album, Who Believes in Angels?. The soulful track immediately won over the crowd with its infectious energy and star-studded charm. Later in the show, Elton and Brandi reunited on the SNL stage for an emotional rendition of the album’s title track. Talk about a powerhouse collaboration!
But let’s not forget: this performance was especially meaningful for John. The 78-year-old star’s return to SNL comes after health challenges, including a vision loss due to an infection he sustained while in the south of France last summer. But ever the pro, Elton powered through, showing fans that no obstacle can stop him from delivering magic on stage.
In case you missed it, John’s SNL appearance was his first in over a decade. His last gig on the show was in 2011, where he pulled double duty as both host and musical guest. And prior to that, the Your Song crooner made his SNL debut in 1982.
Carlile, a familiar face on SNL, also made her third appearance on the show. Having performed in October 2021 and December 2022, the singer has become a regular on the iconic late-night program, and this collaboration with Elton was a true moment to remember.
Elton and Brandi’s connection goes way back to 2009, when Carlile sent a heartfelt letter to John, asking him to play piano on her track “Caroline” from her album Give Up the Ghost. Since then, their friendship has blossomed into a stunning musical partnership. John credits Carlile’s talent and energy for the creation of their new album, saying, “I needed her humor, her brilliance, and her lyrics.”
