Dove Cameron is gearing up for a unique livestream event in collaboration with Wells Fargo on Thursday, offering a personal glimpse into her life through memorabilia. The actress and singer, 29, is using the opportunity to sell off cherished items from her journey, with all proceeds benefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
After stepping back from her career to focus on her mental health, Cameron is making a strong return with new music and acting roles, including her latest single, “Too Much,” and her upcoming role in the TV adaptation of 56 Days. In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the star explained how her hiatus, though difficult, became a turning point for her mental well-being.
“I thought I had it all figured out, that I knew how to manage my mental health and keep going without taking breaks,” Cameron shared. “But I reached a point where my mind and body were telling me I had to stop and take a break.” Despite the initial discomfort of stepping away from her public life, she emphasized that it was the best decision she ever made. “Taking that time allowed me to reset, and I am now functioning at my best.”
Cameron is now using her platform to raise awareness about mental health, partnering with Wells Fargo Credit Cards for a livestream concert, Everything Must Go. The event, streaming live on her YouTube and Instagram channels on Thursday, April 3 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, will feature Cameron auctioning personal items like a coat she wore for several years and even early drafts of her songwriting books. The proceeds from the event will benefit NAMI, a cause Cameron is deeply passionate about.
The actress and singer, known for her emotional connection to her belongings, explained that curating the items for the event wasn’t as difficult as she expected. “I’m a sentimental person, but I chose things that I was ready to part with,” she said. “These items felt like they would have a better home elsewhere.”
Cameron’s advocacy for mental health has always been a priority. “It’s important for me to be vocal about mental illness,” she said, highlighting the stigma often associated with mental health struggles. “I’ve found that opening up about these experiences has helped me and others find peace and feel less alone.”
Reflecting on her journey, Cameron revealed how taking time off allowed her to reconnect with her love for acting and music. “For a long time, I felt like I had to prove myself, but now I’m doing this for me,” she explained. “I’ve fallen back in love with the work I do, and I’m doing it with joy and self-understanding.”
The time away from the industry has given her a newfound sense of happiness and fulfillment. “I don’t think I’ve been this happy and healthy since I was a kid,” she added, expressing excitement for the future and the projects she’s working on.
Through her personal journey and her partnership with NAMI, Dove Cameron is proving that self-care and reflection can lead to a greater sense of purpose and passion in both life and career.
