Chappell Roan sure knows how to make an entrance — even when it comes to tackling a messy situation after her jaw-dropping Governors Ball performance. The 27-year-old “Pink Pony Club” singer revealed the hilarious (and somewhat painful) lengths she went to in order to remove the stubborn green body paint she wore while performing as the Statue of Liberty.
During the Call Her Daddy podcast on March 25, Roan recalled her messy post-performance ordeal. “I don’t think people know this,” she shared, laughing. “I had to spread my cheeks… I just spread my cheeks and get sprayed with green.” Yes, you read that right!
Despite the fun and theatrical look, the process of removing the green paint was far from glamorous. “It didn’t come off. The way I got that off was I took three baths, not with soap — dish soap,” Roan confessed. “I literally poured dish soap in and scrubbed my whole body with coconut oil, jumped in, and scrubbed with a literal kitchen sponge.”
She continued, “All of it came off except there was a green tint to my skin, so I literally looked moldy for four days.”
Roan even joked about the unexpected aftermath, including the toll the scrub took on her bikini line. “My pubes are pulling out from it all,” she quipped. “I’m not even, like, lasered or anything.”
For her June 2024 Governors Ball performance, Roan took to the stage dressed as the Statue of Liberty, complete with green body paint, a crown, and a dramatic red apple prop. Kicking off her set with her hit “Femininomenon,” Roan also took a moment to honor Lady Liberty as a symbol of freedom, especially for oppressed groups. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free,” Roan quoted, before expanding on her thoughts about trans and women’s rights.
Roan’s performances continue to break boundaries and make waves — just like her fearless approach to body paint removal!
