The sighting marks one of Phillips’ few public appearances in recent months, with notable past events including her attendance at the 66th GRAMMY Awards Pre-GRAMMY Gala in February 2024 and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum expansion event in October 2023.
Phillips, the sole surviving member of the legendary folk-pop group, co-founded The Mamas & the Papas in 1965. The group, consisting of Phillips, Denny Doherty, her former husband John Phillips, and Cass Elliot, released five groundbreaking studio albums between 1966 and 1971. The band earned four Grammy nominations in 1967 and won one, solidifying their place in music history.
Recently, Phillips’ late bandmate, Cass Elliot, was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022, with Phillips and Elliot’s daughter, Owen Elliot-Kugell, sharing heartfelt speeches in tribute to Elliot’s enduring legacy. The Mamas & the Papas were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, further cementing their cultural influence.
In her personal life, Phillips has been reflecting on the band’s iconic history. In a recent interview, Elliot’s daughter Owen shared insights from her memoir My Mama, Cass, which explores her mother’s life and legacy, including her iconic contributions to hits like “California Dreamin’” and “Monday, Monday.” The book has provided Owen with a deeper connection to her mother, saying, “She’s been gone 50 years but I feel closer to her than ever.”
