Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, has passed away at the age of 82. The reclusive spouse of the country music icon was known for his preference to stay out of the spotlight, allowing his wife to shine in her illustrious career. Dolly announced his death on March 3 through social media, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of her partner of 58 years.
Carl, a private man, met Dolly in 1964 at a Nashville laundromat when she was just 18. Their connection was instant, and they married two years later in a simple ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia. Despite Dolly’s fame, Carl preferred to stay away from the public eye, managing a successful asphalt-laying business in Nashville and enjoying a quiet life with his beloved wife.
Their bond was strong, with Dolly often sharing how Carl’s confidence and security allowed their marriage to thrive amidst her fame. “He never worried about the attention I received, and he always respected my need for privacy,” she once said. The couple enjoyed quiet vacations in their RV, away from the hustle and bustle of stardom.
Dolly’s hit song “Jolene” was inspired by Carl, joking about a woman who flirted with him at the bank. While the song took on a dramatic tone, it was based on a playful moment between the couple.
Carl is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. Dolly’s heartfelt message thanked fans for their prayers and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
