Tate McRae, the 21-year-old rising pop star, is unapologetically celebrating her LGBTQ+ fans, calling them her “favorite” and praising their unwavering support. In a candid interview with Pride on February 25, McRae shared why she holds her gay fans in such high regard, admitting that no group “beats them” and calling them her “number ones.”
“My whole team is gay! That’s the only opinion I really want when I’m releasing music,” McRae revealed. “We want to do the most and push the boundaries, but it’s also the most brutally honest advice.” She expressed her gratitude for their honest feedback and the guidance they provide, emphasizing how lucky she feels to have them around her.
The “Sports Car” musician also reflected on her close connection with her LGBTQ+ supporters, saying, “You know that as much as you guys ride for me, I ride for you.” McRae’s words resonated with her fans, who continue to rally behind her as she breaks new ground in her career.
In addition to discussing her admiration for her fans, McRae also shared her dream collaboration with SZA, expressing how much she admires the artist’s writing abilities. She imagined a collaboration blending pop and R&B, with McRae eagerly letting SZA take the lead, pushing her own creative boundaries in the process.
Recently, McRae released her third studio album, So Close to What, which includes the track “I Know Love,” a collaboration with her boyfriend, The Kid LAROI. Reflecting on working with him creatively, McRae noted the awkwardness that sometimes comes with singing and writing in front of a romantic partner, but described the experience as “cool” and insightful.
