Shakira’S Custom Lamborghini Giveaway Winner Sells The Car Due To Maintenance Costs

Michael Mejía, the lucky recipient of Shakira’s custom Lamborghini Urus, is parting ways with the luxury vehicle just days after receiving it. The winner of Shakira’s December giveaway shared his decision to sell the car during an interview on El Gordo y La Flaca on Feb. 24, explaining that the cost of maintaining the car had become too overwhelming.

Mejía won the car by participating in a social media contest where contestants danced to Shakira’s song “Soltera” and posted their videos using the hashtag #ElCarroDeShakira. His winning entry, which featured illustrations of Shakira and scenes from his life, earned him the prized car. Shakira also gave him $90,000 to help cover maintenance costs, but Mejía revealed that the sum only covered a small portion of the car’s ongoing expenses.

The car’s upkeep proved to be far more expensive than anticipated, with insurance costing over $2,000 a month and refueling expenses reaching $70 every two days. In addition, the federal taxes on the car, due at the end of the year, would total $95,000. Despite the initial support from Shakira, Mejía found that maintaining the vehicle was simply too costly and has already received offers ranging between $700,000 and $800,000 for it.

Shakira had given away the customized purple Lamborghini in celebration of her song “Soltera” and as a symbol of the personal freedom she found after her split from ex Gerard Piqué. The giveaway was a gesture of appreciation for her fans’ support during that challenging time.
