In an interview with The Guardian published on May 30, the 60-year-old Blue Electric Light artist discussed his relationship status. Kravitz revealed that it has been nine years since he was in a serious relationship and reaffirmed his commitment to celibacy during this period.
“Yes. It’s a spiritual thing,” he said, explaining his choice.
While Kravitz is open to finding love, he noted that any potential partner would need to adapt to his established lifestyle. “I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live,” he added.
Back in 2008, Kravitz spoke to Maxim about his decision to practice celibacy, stating, “[It’s] just a promise I made until I get married. Where I’m at in life, the women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit.” He acknowledged that this stance often surprises people but emphasized, “I’m looking at the big picture.”
In a July 2011 interview with Details, Kravitz addressed how his previous comments were perceived. “Sorry, man, I’m not going to deal with that question. I said it, and it just got blown way out of proportion,” he told the outlet, according to TODAY.
Recently, during an interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, King inquired about Kravitz’s love life in a light-hearted manner. “Asking for a friend — Is there love in your life? Do you have a significant other in your life? And can I beat her ass if she is?” King joked during the May 23 interview. Kravitz laughed and responded, “Right now, I’m just open.”
When King pressed further, asking if he was looking for someone special, Kravitz replied, “It’s hard not to look. You know when you desire something you’re looking for it, right? But I find that when you don’t look is when you find it.”
He elaborated, “I’ve said this for several years, ‘I’m ready. I’m ready. I’m ready,’ but I wasn’t ready. I thought I was ready, right? But I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now.”
Kravitz was married to Lisa Bonet from November 1987 to 1993, and they have a daughter, Zoë, born in 1988. He has also been linked to Vanessa Paradis, Adriana Lima, and Nicole Kidman.
