Doechii is setting the record straight following rumors that she lip-synched during her high-energy performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
On February 15, the 26-year-old rapper took to TikTok to address the controversy, calling out critics who doubted the authenticity of her performance. “I can’t possibly get on here and say this calmly or nicely: y’all are stupid as hell,” she exclaimed in a frustrated response. “That’s my DJ’s voice picking up on the lines I couldn’t say while doing a somersault.”
Her performance, which featured daring acrobatics, intricate choreography, and jaw-dropping stunts like somersaulting off dancers’ shoulders, had some questioning whether she was truly singing live. However, Doechii firmly denied the claims, emphasizing that her entire set was performed live despite being sick with both bronchitis and the flu.
“I was sick as a dog with bronchitis and the flu, performing my ass off in a straddle on top of human men,” she said. “That entire performance was live!” She further explained that the beads she wore at the beginning of the set were picked up on the mic, fueling further confusion.
“I’m just out here working my ass off for y’all, and you’re playing with me like that,” she added, making it clear that she doesn’t lip-sync. “Don’t ever f—ing play with me like that. Ever!”
The Grammy-winning artist, who took home the Best Rap Album award for Alligator Bites Never Heal, later reflected on her emotional Grammy win, sharing an inspiring message to her fans. “I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me I would be rewarded,” she said, also encouraging young Black women to chase their dreams, no matter the stereotypes placed on them.
Doechii’s electrifying performance and powerful speech solidified her as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
