In a recent appearance on the show Hot Ones, Lady Gaga shared insights into her creative process, confirming that she composed her iconic 2011 hit “Born This Way” in a remarkably short span of just ten minutes. During the interview with host Sean Evans, Gaga reflected on her past comments, expressing surprise at her own assertion that the song came to her almost instantaneously, likening the experience to “immaculate conception.”
Gaga elaborated on her songwriting approach, stating that she often experiences a rush of inspiration, allowing her to capture melodies and lyrics quickly. She described this process as a form of “listening,” where she feels as though she is receiving ideas rather than forcing them out. This instinctive method has led to the creation of several of her hits in similarly brief periods.
“Born This Way” has since achieved monumental success, earning six platinum certifications and debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also set records as iTunes’ fastest-selling single at the time, with over one million downloads within its first five days of release.
In addition to discussing her famous track, Gaga shared her thoughts on what constitutes a successful song. She emphasized the importance of a strong hook, asserting that without an engaging chorus, the impact of a song diminishes significantly. She acknowledged that while she may feel satisfied with a piece during its creation, true validation comes from audience reception.
Gaga recently won a Grammy Award for best pop duo/group performance alongside Bruno Mars for their collaboration “Die with a Smile,” and she is set to release her upcoming album titled Mayhem next month. The artist described this new project as a journey of embracing her roots in pop music while exploring themes of chaos and transformation. She likened the creative process for this album to “reassembling a shattered mirror,” suggesting that even imperfect pieces can come together to create something beautiful.
Mayhem is scheduled for release on March 7, 2025, and Gaga is eager to share this new chapter with her fans.
