Rock legend Dave Grohl is ringing in his 56th birthday by making a positive impact on the Los Angeles community, helping those affected by the devastating wildfires. On Tuesday, January 14, Grohl was spotted volunteering with Feed the Streets, a local nonprofit that provides meals to families displaced by the fires and to the hardworking inmate firefighters who are on the front lines.
In a heartwarming video shared by Feed the Streets on Instagram, Grohl is seen stirring a giant pot of chili with fellow volunteers. In another clip, the Foo Fighters frontman is pushing a cart, helping to distribute food to those in need.
This marks another chapter in Grohl’s ongoing commitment to giving back. In February 2024, he and his friends spent over 24 hours barbecuing 70 pork butts for Hope the Mission, a nonprofit supporting homeless families, during the Super Bowl. A post from the organization captured the special moment, with Grohl and his crew spreading warmth and love to The Woodlands Family Shelter.
Grohl’s charitable efforts don’t stop there. In December 2023, he took a break from Foo Fighters’ tour to volunteer in Melbourne, where he served meals to the homeless at The Big Umbrella street kitchen charity.
The wildfires that have raged through Los Angeles since January 7 have had a devastating impact, forcing tens of thousands to evacuate their homes and businesses, with 25 lives tragically lost. Grohl’s decision to spend his birthday giving back during this difficult time has only added to his reputation as someone who uses his platform for good.
Grohl’s birthday volunteer efforts come just three months after a personal scandal rocked his life. In December, it was revealed that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage to Jordyn Blum. A source close to the couple shared with PEOPLE that although the revelation was a shock to Blum and initially led her to consider divorce, they are now “trying to move forward” for the sake of their family. While the marriage is reportedly “still not in great shape,” the couple is working through the challenges.
