Despite the raging wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, the 2025 Grammy Awards are still happening, but this year, the show will carry a much deeper sense of purpose.
The Recording Academy confirmed that the awards ceremony will go ahead as scheduled on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena, but with a heartfelt twist. Following the devastating fires that have impacted thousands, the Academy is shifting its focus from just celebrating music to using the global stage to raise funds for wildfire relief efforts.
“Our hearts are with everyone affected by the wildfires,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, and Tammy Hurt, the chair of the board of trustees, in a joint statement. “This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and the destruction brought by the flames. But in these times, we know music has the unique power to heal.”
In response to the crisis, the Recording Academy, in partnership with MusiCares, launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, contributing an initial $1 million to support the city’s music professionals affected by the fires. With the help of additional donations, they’ve already distributed over $2 million in emergency aid.
While the Grammy Awards show on February 2 will proceed as planned, viewers can expect a special focus on honoring the heroic first responders who have risked their lives to battle the blazes. Celebrities like Lady Gaga, Bebe Rexha, and Jhené Aiko—who all had to evacuate their homes—will undoubtedly be feeling a different energy this year as the night becomes a tribute to both the artistic community and those who protect them.
As the flames continue to rage, the Academy and MusiCares are keeping their efforts rolling to help those in need, with a full support plan for music industry professionals who have lost homes and livelihoods in the crisis. Laura Segura, MusiCares’ executive director, called for continued donations to aid displaced music people, acknowledging the significant impact the fires have had on those within the music community.
Stars like Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish will be among the top nominees for this year’s Grammys, but on this night, the event will be about much more than who takes home a trophy. The 2025 Grammys will be a beacon of hope for a city in crisis, reminding us all that even in dark times, music can bring light.
