Max George of The Wanted has opened up about the terrifying health scare that led him to write a will from his hospital bed before undergoing pacemaker surgery. The 36-year-old musician, who has recently reformed The Wanted as a duo with fellow bandmate Siva Kaneswaran, shared the shocking details in a Jan. 11 interview with The Sun.

George explained that the night before his pacemaker operation, he feared for his life. “I thought I was going to die,” he confessed, revealing that he had written his will on his phone after experiencing severe symptoms. The trouble began on December 11 when George woke up feeling unwell, with blue hands and a freezing body temperature. Initially, he thought his condition was nothing serious, but things quickly escalated.

“I couldn’t move my arms, and my throat felt like it was closing up,” George recalled, describing the terrifying experience that prompted his mother to call a doctor. The singer was then rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered irregularities with his heart and informed him that he needed a pacemaker.

The diagnosis came as a shock to George, who described the whole ordeal as “really scary.” His heart rate had dropped dangerously low, and doctors weren’t sure how much longer he could last without the procedure. On December 18, he underwent pacemaker surgery, which took about three hours. Though he was awake during the procedure, he was heavily sedated and remembered the moment his heart rate returned to normal as a surreal experience.

In a heartwarming moment, George shared how his partner Maisie Smith comforted him post-surgery, lying beside him as he felt the blood flow properly for the first time in days. “I felt alive again,” he said.

George, who has since recovered, first revealed the news of his pacemaker fitting on Instagram in December, describing it as “the best Christmas present” and thanking his fans for their support. He also shared that the surgery had taken place just below a meaningful tattoo of his late bandmate Tom Parker’s birthdate, symbolizing a tribute to his memory.

Max George’s health scare serves as a powerful reminder of life’s fragility, with the singer expressing gratitude for his recovery and the support of his loved ones.
